U.S. Naval Institute Blog

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

For the past several months, I have been enjoying many of the contributions to the U.S. Naval Institute blog. As most friends know, I have a passion for history, particularly maritime, military and naval history, even though I have never served in the Armed Services.

the USNI blog has had a couple of interesting reads this week I thought I would point you in the direction of:

There is a lot of good conversation surrounding the current state of the United States Navy and the future of our sea power and shipbuilding going on at the U.S. Naval Institute blog. If you are in tot hat kind of stuff then check it out!

Feedback wanted on Shared Item Post

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I’ve been using a WordPress plugin called Shared Items Post for almost two months now. The plugin automatically inserts items I’ve shared from Google Reader into my blog. Recently, I started using the Share with Note feature in Google Reader which allows me to make a comment on the article I’m sharing. You can see a good example of how this appears on my blog in today’s post, Items I’ve Read and Liked – January 15, 2009. There is a link to an article and then a comment from me beneath it.

So my question is, does anyone like it?

I like it because it is an easy and clean way for me to share some stories that struck me as interesting. I definately need to use the “Share with Note” feature on each item as I feel like it looks nicer and I don’t feel like I am cheating on my blog as much. It’s more “me”, I guess.

I currently title these starting with “Items I’ve Read and Liked” then end with the date. This happens automatically. But I’m not sure I like the phrase “Items I’ve Read and Liked”. “Shared News”? “In the News”? “Stuff from away”? What would be a better title phrase to explain what these are to me?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions on these posts. I’m looking forward to reading your comments.

IMified intrigues me

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

If you spend a lot of time on instant messenging or if you are mobile and IM is something you use then check out IMified at http://imified.com. I’ve been using it on and off for a while now. This post is a test to see how many tools I can string together and be practical. For instance, I’m typing this in Adium while connected to IMified and sending to my WordPress blog. My WordPress blog has the microblogging plugin to notify Jaiku and Twitter of the post. I’ll have to go back later and tag it, categorize it and put some links in. But this is a nice alternative for some unique situations. Or maybe I’m just geeking out. Thanks for putting up with my test.
