“The Wind That Shakes the Barley”

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

I watched “The Wind That Shakes the Barley” on Netflix. Great movie about the Irish Uprising in the early Nineteenth Century. Not for the faint at heart though. Some scenes are very graphic and emotional. Worth checking out.

Contagious by Scott Sigler

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Contagious by Scott SiglerThe Great Fearless Dark Overlord, Scott Sigler, has finished podcasting his sci-fi novel “Contagious“. And it is awesome!

I’m a long time fan of Mr. Sigler, going all the way back to when he began podcasting “Earthcore” in 2005. “Contagious” is the sequel “Infected“.

Mr. Sigler’s material is all science fiction and horror related. To quote the author, all his stuff is written for a mature audience, contains adult anguage, and lots and lots of violence. It’s all good stuff!

Give any of his stuff a listen if you enjoy falling in love with a character in the story and then something gruesome happening to that character. Seriously, you just never know who will be dead at the end of his novels.

Wired for War by P.W. Singer

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Wired for WarAuthor of “Wired for War“, P.W. Singer spoke to the Pritzker Military Library last week and I found his talk very compelling. I have not read the bok yet but intend to. “Wired for War” is subtitled “The Robotics Revolution and Conflict in the 21st Century”. It’s about the current use of robots on the battlefield and the discussions surounding their potential. His talk at the Pritzker Military Library clearly suggests that the future is here now and that the science fiction we see on TV and movies may be closer than we realize.

I’m a huge fan of the Pritzker Military Library and all the good work they are doing. The regularly podcast book authors, Medal of Honor recipients, and talks and discussions of issues that surround our military today and geo-political conditions world wide. Always interesting and usually very entertaining and educational.

If you enjoy robots, and who doesn’t, then it sounds like Mr. Singer’s book will be worth reading. At the very least, listen to this podcast and discover how much robots are in use now and what some in the United States military think of this. Very educational!
