Google has a problem getting their Chrome OS to print with everyone’s printer. Why don’t they solve this with another cloud application?
I was Listening to one of my favorite podcasts this evening, Buzz Out Loud episode #1117. Tom, Molly and Rafe spent some time talking about a report that Google wants to develop a standard for printing to ease the work required to get Google’s new Chrome OS to print.
It’s a huge problem! Nearly every printer has a different software driver. Even within the same manufacturer there are driver differences for each generation and style of printer they make. It sure makes it all very complicated. I applaud Google for trying and I hope they succeed. But frankly, I think Google is missing a bigger opportunity!

I was checking out Google Books tonight. There is a ton of valuable interesting stuff! Including, “Maine at Gettysburg“. “Maine at Gettysburg” is the definitive single volume reference of the many and great contributions that men from The State of Maine made at the Battle of Gettysburg in July of 1863.
There are many other great historical pieces on Google Books. The nice thing is that it’s search able and easy to bookmark and share.
I need to explore the stacks at Google more!

A few days ago, I wrote an article, Don’t Use Your ISP for Email. At the end, I suggested that you just get a domain account from Google Apps Standard Edition. Today, I was listening to Buzz Out Loud 909: The 404 hacks Natali’s computer and was reminded that Microsoft has a similar offer. Office Live Small Business allows you to have a domain and email and more.
I used it when it first came out a few years ago but prefered Google’s offer. Since then I have just forgotten about it. But if you are looking for an easy and inexpensive place to host your own domain and manage your own email then Microsoft is worth a look too.
And of course DreamHost Apps, can give you some other options and Google Apps.
