U.S. Naval Institute Blog
Thursday, March 12th, 2009For the past several months, I have been enjoying many of the contributions to the U.S. Naval Institute blog. As most friends know, I have a passion for history, particularly maritime, military and naval history, even though I have never served in the Armed Services.
the USNI blog has had a couple of interesting reads this week I thought I would point you in the direction of:
- NATIONAL POLICY AND THE TRANSOCEANIC NAVY by Samuel P. Huntington is a great article from the May 1954 Proceedings. The author discusses the challenges faced. It’s interesting how little has changed in the last 60 years.
- USN Battle Damage Reports from Savo Island has a PDF file containing the recently scanned battle damage reports from the August 9, 1942 Battle of Savo Island off Guadalcanal. If you appreciate primary sources of information then you will find this an interesting read.
There is a lot of good conversation surrounding the current state of the United States Navy and the future of our sea power and shipbuilding going on at the U.S. Naval Institute blog. If you are in tot hat kind of stuff then check it out!
