Google Printing Solution

December 2, 2009 – 9:47 PM | by Michael P. Johnson

Google Chrome LogoGoogle has a problem getting their Chrome OS to print with everyone’s printer. Why don’t they solve this with another cloud application?

I was Listening to one of my favorite podcasts this evening, Buzz Out Loud episode #1117. Tom, Molly and Rafe spent some time talking about a report that Google wants to develop a standard for printing to ease the work required to get Google’s new Chrome OS to print.

It’s a huge problem! Nearly every printer has a different software driver. Even within the same manufacturer there are driver differences for each generation and style of printer they make. It sure makes it all very complicated. I applaud Google for trying and I hope they succeed. But frankly, I think Google is missing a bigger opportunity!

Rich attack USS Constitution

November 9, 2009 – 4:52 PM | by Michael P. Johnson

20071013-69.jpgSome arrogant rich people find it too noisy living next door the USS Constitution. The nerve of some people just burns me up!

According to the Boston Herald, some residents have complained that the twice daily cannon salutes and the playing of the national anthem are disruptive to their lives. You can read the Boston Herald story here, and here.

Since 1975 the USS Constitution has fired a gun salute at 8AM and played the National Anthem over loud speakers while they raise the national flag and then fire a second salute at sunset when they lower the colors. This is not new and is very predictable. That someone now finds it, “more disruptive to the neighborhood than you might have imagined” is offensive to me!

How galling can these people be? This so rubs me the wrong way.

July 31, 2009 – 8:46 PM | by Michael P. Johnson

090730-N-XXXXX-001-400pxUSS Hopper (DDG 70) scored a hit in the latest Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) at-sea firing event on July 30. This makes it 19 out of 23 attempts for the Navy.

I’ve always followed military technology developments and enjoy military history. Why I never served in the armed forces is a mystery to many people, including myself. Anyway, I remember a debate I had with a friends in high school about the future of warfare. A lot of wild claims were made in that argument by me and my friend. I’ll save all those recollections for another time.  But on the subject of Star Wars Missile Defense and Brilliant Pebbles my friend had claimed, “you can’t hit a bullet with a bullet.”
