5 Links for Friday #2

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I’m following up my 5 links post from two weeks ago with another 5 links. I took a look at my Delicious list and found I have not bookmarked much lately. I know I’ve been busy but didn’t realize I’ve been quite so busy. So I’ll pull a couple of oldies but goodies to go with some new finds.

  • Heal Your Church WebSite - Dean Peters always has good stuff about web design and good management behavior to consider. I’ve been following his articles for a couple of years now. I usually find a morsel or two of value everytime.
  • OpenID - The buzz around OpenID is growing. The idea is simple. One username and password that will authenticate you onto many accounts and services across the Internet. I’ve started using it for any site that will accept it. I even have delegation setup for my website. Much more cooperation between big players is needed for this to succeed but the ground swell is well underway and it’s all good!
  • Yuda Freedom - I’m not sure I will find myself using this service often. But I will definitely be suggesting it to others who need to publish a document but might not be very web-savvy or are in a hurry to display their work in an easy to use format. That’s what Yuda does. You turn your work into a PDF file and upload it to Yuda. Yuda makes the document interactive.
  • Teens Today with Vanessa Van Petten - I first heard of Vanessa Van Petten on Jumping Monkeys 43. Since then I have read some of her articles and am really enjoying her work. She tries to connect parents and teens together. I’m still a long way from being the parent of a teenager. But I work with teens everyday and any advise is helpful. Listen to Jumping Monkeys and then add her to your RSS reader.

That’s all for today. What neat new place on the Internet have you discovered this week? I would love to see your link in the comments!

5 Links for Friday

Friday, April 18th, 2008

I visit a lot of websites in the course of a week. A few end up in my Del.icio.us feed. I hope to give you a short list of a few I found interesting each week. Let me know what you think?

  • TextOpus - Is a collection of web-based tools for manipulating text. Tools like convert all text to UPPER CASE or lower case. Or Capitalize First Character In A Word. Or maybe you need a Morse Code translator.
  • intoDNS - I have spent some time fighting some Domain Name Service (DNS) issues lately. IntoDNS was helpful in understanding a few things. I’m still working on understanding my problem. Watch for a post next week on my issue.
  • NearlyFreeSpeech.NET - I learned about this web hosting company from Alex Connor. Have not tried it yet but it is worth a look.
  • Google Docs Download - Is a Firefox script that allows you to quickly and easily download all of your Google Docs and Spreadsheets to your local computer. So now I can backup all my Google stuff just in case Google turns evil.

So what have you discovered this week? Please share your favorite link of the week in the comments. Thanks!

Sick Day Link Love

Monday, March 24th, 2008

I found myself at home today with a sick daughter. I have plenty of work I could be doing. But instead of being productive around th house I decided to comment the heck out of all my friends blogs and their online worlds. So this post is chock full of link love to some of the interesting people I cavort with online.

I posted to Twitter, Pownce, FaceBook, and my favorite, Jaiku that I was doing this today. I didn’t get too many responses.

Of course, faster than a speeding bullet, Scott Wilder responded to my to do list. He has more iron’s in the fire of new media than anyone I know. I’ve written about Scott before. We record the What Would Jesus Podcast together. He has been doing more and more with video lately. He is leading a bible study at his church in this video. I most enjoyed the vocabulary leason throughout.

Scott just announced that he and his wife are expecting . They are going to be great parents! Congratulations to Kathie and Scott.

The next to reply to my to do list was Betty Ortiz. If you are on Jaiku and not following ChibbiGirl then you are missing out. She is fun, full of life and just as cute as can be! I owe Betty some Always the bridesmaid, never the bride photos on her Flickr Group. I’ll get those up soon I promise!

The third and last person to get on my priority list was Ed Tuthill, Bishop on Jaiku. I enjoy following Ed for the interesting pieces of news he posts occassionally. Like so many of the people I befriend online, he isbright, witty and fun to follow. His blog is Free Beer and Shots Around the World.

So with no one else requesting my attention then I move on to the friends and aquaintances that have news to share!

Sheryl and Ken of Star Dust Global Ventures are now engaged to be married. They are the most inter-connectd couple to be found and have lots of ideas on the future of communications and connectivity. I’ve been invited to join them for a conference call this week. I’m looking forward to seeing what they are up to next!

My friend Tara has started blogging. I actually know Tara in real life and had the pleasure to attend her wedding and get to know her family. Following her writtings and family through a blog is great because I haven’t seen or visited with her since my family started. But am reminded why she is such a great person to know. “Thanks Tara! Now get your husband blogging!”

I am meeting many and a varied group of people in my exploration of the Internet. These are just a few. I may need to write a follow-up as I had hoped to comment on more people. But I hear my daughter stirring and need to tend to her.

God bless all!
