Evernote for iPhone

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

As I’ve written before, Evernote is my new favorite app. And now I see that Evernote has released an iPhone app. I can’t wait to try Evernote for iPhone on my iPod Touch. But as of this moment, Apple has not released the update for the Touch to use the new apps.

I imagine Evernote being as easy on the Touch as on my MacBook. And with the syncing back to my MacBook, all the little things I want to note on my Touch will automagically be on my Mac. I can’t wait to see this!

Hopefully, It will be available in the morning. I’ll report my opinion once I’ve tried it. Stay tuned!

Evernote, my new favorite app

Friday, April 11th, 2008

EverNote website logo I’ve been using the beta version of EverNote for a couple of weeks now. EverNote is a notebook-like application that makes it easy to capture information from many sources in any environment using all kinds of devices and platforms and then make that information easily accessible and searchable.

If you are familiar with Google Notebook or Zoho Notebook then you will have some idea of how to use EverNote. But the “cool factor” with EverNote is that is has a client application that syncs up to the web to make your notes and clippings available offline as well as when you are online.

EverNote claims to have text recognition abilities that will recognize words in pictures or screen captures. But I’ve not had good success with it yet. I am reminded that this is still in beta so I am hopeful that it will work soon. You can see a nice video on the EverNote blog explaining text recognition. The use Skitch in the video; another application I like.

I’m currently using EverNote everyday for research, to do lists, organizing blog ideas and other things. After Firefox and Adium, it’s my next most used app currently.

EverNote client runs on Macintosh and Windows. The webclipper will work on Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer 7.

It’s currently in beta and is by invitation only. You can register to receive an invite or email me, I have a few and may be able to hook you up or con one of my friends into sending you one.

Skitch to Twitter

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Skitch.com I am an infrequent user of Skitch but they just added a couple of cool new features that are worth mentioning. Skitch is a screen capture tool that allows for some doodling and drawing on the image you have captured. It then will allow you to store it easily online. It is Macintosh only I’m afraid.

Yesterday Skitch announced My Twitter which allows you to automatically share your posts to Skitch.com with your Twitter, the social networking micro-blog.

Then they announced My MailDrop which allows you to send an email with an attached picture to your Skitch.com account. Which opens up all kinds of possibilities related to mobile devices.

If you do screen captures occasionally then Skitch is worth a look. It’s fun, fast and easy to share. But I also suggest a look at Jing Project for screen capture as well. Jing has some similarities to Skitch and some differences but both demonstrate the cool things happening in software development on Macintosh OS.
